In this space, you can meet and read the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a theologian who experienced unjust imprisonment and reflected on it.
You are invited to engage with his thoughts and emotions and reflect on what the experience does to faith and to Christian understanding. The Archbishop of Canterbury has said that 'Every time I return to Bonhoeffer I find that I'm stretched and enriched more than I can possibly say. I think for me he is just one of the very greatest Christian writers of the modern age.'
You can also hear about Fr Maximilian Kolbe who volunteered to take the place of a condemned prisoner in Auschwitz and was later canonized as a martyr (feast day 14th August). He is also commemorated as a 20th century martyr in the form of a statue above the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey.
