Earth Matters

Earth songs

In this space, you can use music, hymn singing, meditation, chant or other music to enable reflection on creation and our care for the earth. You might want to listen prayerfully to sounds which remind you of the life of the planet we live on; you might want to sing praise to God for the creation; or use a chant or hymn to offer repentance for the damage we have done to the earth. You may also just want to sit quietly in silent reflection or in contemplation of a candle, or hold a stone. It is up to you how you want to approach this space. You may have ideas about what kind of music you already have or want to use. If you don't, we have a few suggestions for you to try out.

The suggested songs and hymns below are not exhaustive and you can probably think of favourites that are not listed. If you don't find anything you want to use, why don't you have a look through your hymn book or run through the music on your Ipod or other music collection and see if you can identify music which will help you reflect on the creation through music? You might like to make a note in your notebook, journal or blog entry, or to imagine putting CDs or sheet music into your rucksack.

We also include a new song by Linda Currin for you to use if you want to try out something you don't already know. The song is copyright to Linda, but you can download and print off the music free of charge if you want to - see next page.
