Home House

After visiting the various spaces within the house, you might like to consider what you would like to be rid of. Maybe you came in with some pre-suppositions and assumptions about home and homelessness you would like to shed? Maybe there are experiences or things you have done you would now like to leave behind. Maybe you have thought about de-cluttering your home by getting rid of, donating or recycling things you really don’t need; perhaps it would also be worth de-cluttering your spiritual life too, to make room for new things.

If there are things you would like to leave behind, then make a note of what you would like to leave, in your diary.

Confession and repentance

If you would like to consider what you would like to leave behind in a more formal and prayerful way, you can use the following prayers of confession and repentance with a focus on awareness of those who are homeless:

For all the times we have failed to remember those who sleep rough on our streets
Lord, have mercy

For all the times we have judged others without examining ourselves
Lord, have mercy

For all the times we have been too lazy to find out the truth
Lord, have mercy

For all the times we have ignored chances to right wrongs
Lord, have mercy

For all the times we have been forgotten those who need us to remember them
Lord, have mercy

For all the times we have left you outside, Jesus, without anywhere to lay your head
Lord, have mercy

Lord of the earth, we have failed to do your will,
We ask your forgiveness in sorrow and humility,
Help us to do better in days to come
Through Jesus Christ, our Lord

From here, you can travel as a visitor through a number of pathways through the various cell-spaces finding out what it is like to be an inmate here.
